  1. Mao Shan Wang Musang King

What it is:

Known to be the wealthiest and best-tasting durian ever filmed, Mao Shan Wang is among the most popular variety originated from Kelantan and Pahang. This strain of durian is light green in color with triangular-shaped thorns and may be distinguished by its bald star patch located at the bottom of the fruit.

Also known to durian fans as ‘butter durian’, Mao Shan Wang is well-loved by many because of its butter-like creamy feel. Bright yellow in color, the flesh of Mao Shan Wang comprises a combination of bittersweet notes that many are deeply fond of. What it is:

Round or oval in form, XO is a variety which may be found mostly in the region of butter durian, Gentling and Cameron Highlands

Why is it unique?

This strain of durian is cultivated through an elongated period of fermentation in the shell, therefore, earning it the title of XO because of the powerful alcoholic taste. Not your average sweet durian, XO is extremely tender and slightly watery and has an extreme bitterness which may be too piquant for a few.
