NorLSAR Coastal Endurance Walk

norlsar walkPhilip Hill and Josh Hutcheon, both members of Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue, are attempting a coastal endurance walk on 8/9 August 2014, starting from Hunstanton Lighthouse on the North Norfolk coast, and finishing at Wellintgon Pier in Great Yarmouth. Where practical they will be following the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path and to make life even more interesting they will be carrying a search and rescue basket stretcher.

Norfolk & Suffolk 4x4 Response who often provide vehicle support for NorLSAR searches are joining the support team, and will be meeting with Josh and Philip at regular locations to check they're OK and replenish supplies.

We will keep this page updated with their progress, and anticipated times of arrival at various places along the route (please note timings and locations are approximate).

*** UPDATE *** due to extreme weather last night and safety concerns,  the guys received some assistance from the support team and bypassed some of the most remote stretches today.  They reached Wellington Pier at 17:30

Well done from all at 4x4 Response.

EACH Three Peaks Challenge

This was a sponsored cycle ride undertaken by Dereham Round Table as a fund raiser for EACH. Although not strictly off-road, our friends at EACH requested us to provide a support vehicle with a trailer. Obviously there are no peaks in Norfolk, but the course covered three of the highest points, and totalled around 60 miles.

EACH Haloween Run

This comprised the usual green lane runs, all ending at the Quiddenham Hospice. The fee for entering was to donate an item off of a shopping list produced by the Hospice. This comprised day to day essentials such as washing powder, cleaning materials, tea, sugar, etc.

EACH Easter Run

The idea was simple, we would all take some Easter Eggs to the kids at the East Anglian Childrens Hospice at Quidenham in Norfolk. One team from the south and one from the north. Not so simple was that we would get there using green lanes :-)

East Anglia Childrens Hospice - Thetford Forest Event

This is an annual event where we provide logistical off-road support in Thetford Forest.  As you will see, this involves drinking tea and eating burgers. But as well as sitting around, we do assist in setting up the course before and taking it down after.  Directly prior we take out marshals and open gates, with final sweeps collecting and locking up.  Whilst the event is running we search and locate lost runners, transport medical teams to any location as may be required, collect exhausted runners and riders, and provide mobile marshalling.  And just to make a point, you will see we also have female members, as well as canine ones.  Along the way we have a great deal of fun, and provide a valuable support to EACH on their main annual fund raising event.
