Scout night hike thetford 17th/18th feb 2018 2 Months, 1 Week ago
We have been asked to assist with another scout walk
This will be similar to the last but for the older members may remember the scout night hikes we used to do.

should be another good event with a few forestry keys for access

Forestry keys? Guessing this is Thetford then rather than Reepham? Also is this one of Tony Clark's exercises then which the last Reepham one wasn't (and showed).
Anyway you had me at 'forestry keys' depending on dates of course.

Put me down for this please. As Darren commented, suggesting Reepham wasn't up to standard, I agree. Not that I've done one before but the overall organiser didn't impress at all. We very nearly had words.

To be fair I don't think he particularly wanted or needed us or any of the rest of the voluntary sector and was most likely just indulging us after the council bolted us onto his exercise probably in lieu of hiring the school. On top of this he was then told by Raynet that he couldn't use us he had planned as they had seconded us to make up their shortfall. I'd be amazed if we got an invite next year

Mind you giving out the wrong grid references for each base to pass on to the Scouts was a pretty massive school boy error considering it was a navigation exercise

After speaking to Kalvin today it seems that although as far as he knows this exercise isn't being organised by TC it is being run by someone that used to assist him with organising them and hopes to use us just as Tony did which can only be a good thing. For those that don't know, many years ago TC was our 'Green lane officer' which harps back to our land Rover club roots. This in mind we always gotbto spend a lot of the exercise laning around Reepham. But seems this has gone up another notch as it sounds like we will have the freedom of Thetford forest for this one. ***Shameless effort to promote the event ***

I will do this one as 4x4r
although if it's the one I think it is (Can't confirm as I dunno which district this hike is) I may be also doing other odds and sods on this hike as I have heavy involvement in scouting. I have done searching at this event for the past 2 years, last year was a bit of a shambles with some Scouters vehicles being unreliable and inappropriate hence why 4x4r was mentioned.

It mostly involves finding groups of children who are behind on their timings between bases often a little bit off track and pointing them in the correct direction or driving them to the next base.
There is normally great radio cover and I can get the frequencies when I check with my colleague (who runs the radio comms for the event).

We have had kids go very off track before but not often. It's a great event and normally finish at something like 2 or 3am.

Sounds a much better thing. As we weren't allowed to transport the scouts st Reepham event, I was wondering what we were there for as I thought that would be a key role to collect the lost and knackered andveithervreturn to base, or out back on track.
