I really enjoyed the last reepham star trek execise and feel it went very well with ALL groups well presented and worked really well together and simon faraday drake was the broadland district organisor with the scouts.

and I really hope that the comments made on here are not about that exercise !!

I am glad you enjoyed it Julian but my comments were about that exercise and I stand by them.

I had no idea who we were meant to be working under as the guy who was running the actual scout hike had one job in mind for us and Raynet had another. We seemed to come to a comprimise after what I thought were some unnecessarily short words from some but this resulted in 4x4 and their Norlsar passengers becoming static for the night so that we could provide the extra comms needed on the bases.

I only managed to escape this after being relieved by Keith after we gained Guy later that night only to find that control had no further use for us so we took it into our own hands roam about the route and then actually started to make a useful contribution by finding several lost teams and putting them back on course. Up to this point this was only being done by the 'medical cover' 4x4 which wasn't one of ours.

This is probably the wrong thred to be discussing the last scout hike, for my point of view i agree with darren 4x4s requested to provide transport and find missing teams doesn't happen when they are stationary and being used for coms at fixed locations.
we all had to babysit a member of norlsar (mine couldn't actually read a map) that put 2 in each vehicle which i understood to be so we could transfer kids, however in practice we had to swap the norlsar member for a scout leader to do this.

A valuable lesson in ensuring their is actually a roll for and need for 4x4r.

My comments relate to this exercise too. As I came into the event later than others I missed what went wrong at the start but was certainly there at the finish and wasn't impressed at all by the scout organiser's attitude.

It may be worth remembering we all had CRB checks carried out by the Scouts in the past to enable us to transport Scouts in our vehicles.
Some members will already have CRB / DBS accreditation.
It may be the reason we are not being tasked with transport?
