It’s quite amazing what you can make from a plastic bottle

The last cups of tea of the day have been drunk and you’ve managed to glean the last vestiges of milk from the plastic bottle. Feeling pretty pleased with yourself you swill out the bottle and remove the information sleeve then make your way to the recycling bin and chuck it in. Closing the lid you just have to wait for the council to come and take it away.  Job done, now off to bed. However, have you ever given any thought to what will become of that humble plastic milk bottle?  You may be surprised to find that that milk bottle will be seeing you again albeit in a very, very different form.

  1. Clothing. You don’t actually have to wear old bits of plastic on your skin! Most Ski and water proof jackets are dependent on the petro chemical industry but when the lining for jackets can be made from recycled plastic it helps to reduce the cost. T-Shirts, fleeces and Sweaters can be made from plastic as well; in fact it takes up to 10 bottles to make a T-shirt.
  2. Outdoors and Indoors. Like sleeping in the great outdoors?  If you do chances are you’ll need a decent sleeping bag and recycled plastic can provide the lining and insulation for that too. You’ll see a lot of used in garden furniture and for play equipment. Indoors it makes excellent underlay for carpet and even more bottles.
  3. Keeping things safe. A huge amount of plastic ends up being used for packaging. It helps to keep that expensive Television set you’ve bought safe and sound. It also can be used to protect ceramics. And when it’s done it can be recycled all over again.
  4. Bags for life. We’ve all got used to paying for a bag or remembering to bring out plastic bags for life. These pollution reducers are excellent and its good bet that most are made from old shopping bags and other recycled plastic so you don’t need to chuck them away.
