Support member

Everyone who joins the club enters as a Support Member, which is someone who simply wants to support the club but who, for any number of reasons is not on the active call out list. Initially this could be because they have not passed the assessment that is required before a member can drive on behalf of 4X4 Response.

However in order to go on the Active Call Out List there are certain requirements of the Driver & Vehicle, which everyone might not want to achieve, also some people may only want to join for the social side of the club or to carry out a support function e.g. on the committee.

In order to join and remain as a Support Member all you have to do is complete the application form and pay the annual registration fee.

As the key aim of the club is to provide voluntary service to the community there is no difference in Registration fee for the 2 classes of membership and the fees are kept as low as possible.

As a Support Member you will receive vehicle stickers and regular Newsletters outlining the clubs events.

The club does not actively fund raise so all the clubs money comes from membership and donations from users of our services.

Active call-out member

Obviously the key aim of the club is to bring together like-minded people who want to use their vehicles to support the community in times of need. In order to present a semi-professional service and because of health & safety reason required by the insurance of the County Emergency Planning Department all Drivers who use their vehicles for the group must pass a basic assessment of their driving skills (off-road), their ability to navigate (you can’t help if you can’t get there) and their equipment and vehicles (there is a basic minimum level of kit and spec for the vehicle).

Once you have passed the assessment (there is plenty of help and guidance) you can then be added to the Active Call Out List. You will receive a Hi-visibility waistcoat with reflective 4X4 Response badges (small returnable deposit required), an ID card which must be carried on all 4X4 Response activities and call-outs and a members handbook.

In order to remain on the Active Call Out List there are the following requirements:

You must attend at least one club event, exercise or call out each year
You must have a 4X4 vehicle and
Your vehicle must be road legal and insured for voluntary work use (check with your insurer)

You can then enter your details on the screen and print it out (it can be saved to your hard drive if you want). Unfortunately we cannot accept the forms on line because we must have a signature showing your acceptance of our Membership rules and Code of conduct (included on page 2 of the form).

We also require a passport style photo for the ID card (a digital image is preferable if available).
